Our Historians

“In school you learn a lot about the world but with oral history I got the chance to learn about my family as well, and their history”
Student, Judgemeadow Community College, Leicester

The migration stories on this website have been collected and documented by young people from Leicester, Cardiff, Sheffield, Manchester and London. They independently interviewed members of their families, friends and local communities.

The young people were students at:

Judgemeadow Community College – a multicultural college with over 1200 students situated on the outskirts of the city of Leicester

Cathays High School – a mixed comprehensive school serving the heart of Cardiff

Cardiff High School – a comprehensive school in the Cyncoed area of Cardiff

Parkwood Academy – based in the North of Sheffield, on the edge of the Peak District

Manchester Academy – a vibrant and diverse school in Moss Side; the centre of Manchester

Langdon Park School – a community secondary school and sixth form in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets

Thomas Tallis School – a secondary school in the Royal London Borough of Greenwich, which has been awarded an International School Award

We also worked with young people from Somali Community Parents Association (SOCOPA) based in Leicester. We would like to thank all those involved for their support throughout this project.
